Bio
Gianna O’Day grew up in Santa Rosa, California competing in Jr. High and High School Rodeo in District 2 before making her way to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) where she graduated in four years with a bachelor’s degree in BioResource and Agricultural Engineering. She rodeoed at Cal Poly for three years, the spring season of her freshman year was cut short when she lost her right thumb when tying up a horse during spring break. Nonetheless, Gianna went on to compete in all four women’s events for the next two years.
Now, Gianna is an Associate Engineer for the Stockton East Water District and is on track to achieve her Professional License in Civil Engineering - Environmental Water Resources. She has also pursued her dreams of breakaway roping professionally. She ended the 2022 season 5th in the world Rookie standings and in the top 60 in the overall WPRA Breakaway roping world standings claiming titles such as High Desert Stampede Breakaway Champion (Redmond) and the Inaugural Rookie Roundup Breakaway Champion. Since 2022 she has continued competing professionally, primarily in California, qualifying for the CA Circuit Finals in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Gianna took on the job of rodeo coach in Fall of 2025 with her husband Kelly. "Starting a new program is not easy, but with Kelly and I's knowledge and experience of being a part of a legendary program at Cal Poly, I believe we are the best for the job!" -Gianna
The first season Gianna & Kelly started with 5 competitors and are looking forward to expanding and hosting their own college rodeo.
Gianna & Kelly's Motto is: "One Run Better" The more runs someone can make in all different rodeo setups, the more they will learn, and the better they will become. Each competitor's goal should be to learn from every run they make.
