Bio
Coach Helms grew up in Orange County where he played quarterback at Fullerton College from 1990-92. He then moved on to play at Cal-Poly Humboldt (formerly Humboldt State University) from 1993-95. Helms earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics and then completed his teaching credential in 1996. In 1997 he returned to Cal-Poly Humboldt as a graduate assistant. Helms later coached at College of the Redwoods from 2001-2003 as both the running backs coach and offensive coordinator. In 1998 Helms was hired as a mathematics teacher at Fortuna high school and has assisted their football team in the past. Helms has also served as the Varsity Softball Coach at Fortuna high since 2008. Helms returned in the spring of 2022 to assist the Corsairs football program once again. Eric married Kelly Wolfe-Helms in 1998 and has three daughters – Faith, Autumn, and Maya.
